Neil has 14 years’ experience working as a psychiatrist. He began his training at the famous and influential Maudsley and Bethlem Hospitals, working in a number of national specialist units and becoming involved in research at the internationally renowned Institute of Psychiatry. He has since worked in a number of busy inner London Mental Health Trusts in ethnically diverse boroughs.

His consultant years have mainly be spent in Primary Care Mental Health and Community Assessment Teams, meaning that he specialises in undertaking high quality assessments.

Dr Sarkar has a passion for medical education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has held clinical lectureships and senior lectureships in all the trusts and affiliated academic institutions her has worked in, with further qualifications and publications in this area.

Dr Sarkar also maintains an interest in transcultural psychiatry – having undertaken medical education and service development in Somaliland and travelled to over 130 countries, including Syria and Libya before the conflicts. He has extensive experience in assessment and management of PTSD from refugees seeking asylum.

He has an interest in psychopharmacology with some publications relating to treatment of schizophrenia, and he is a registered reviewer for respected psychiatric research journals.
