I am a dedicated, enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ experience of working with people who face mental health difficulties.
I qualified in Romania in 1986, and specialised in Psychiatry in the UK.
Several years ago I took an interest in Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and after much learning and observation, I have realised that a significant proportion of people who come to our services with various mental health difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance misuse, deliberate self-harm actually have an underlying Neurodevelopmental Disorder(s), which is the problem leading to and maintaining their mental health difficulties.
For this reason I screen all the patients I see for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. (The evidence for a close relationship between Neurodevelopmental Disorders and several co-morbid mental health disorders is becoming stronger day by day). I am pleased to say that many patients who had spent several years within the Mental Health Services have turned the corner once their underlying disorder has been recognised and addressed.
