Dr Payne graduated from Leicester University Medical School in 1982 and undertook psychiatric training there before moving to Nottingham for higher training, gaining an endorsement in Rehabilitation. He has a strong focus on patient-centered and recovery focussed models of care.-
He worked for many years in the NHS in Nottingham and the West Country in Rehabilitation and Community Care Services with a commitment to user and carer engagement and recovery-based practice. Latterly he worked in an Integrated Community Mental Health Team. He has experience working with a wide range of mental health problems and issues including depression, anxiety disorders, personality difficulties, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.
He has a special interest and expertise in the treatment of complex difficulties related to psychosis in inpatient and community settings. Dr Payne is committed to working with patients, carers, and their families where appropriate to facilitate the best outcomes for care and treatment.
Dr Payne has considerable experience in the application of the Mental Health Act both from the perspective of a medical practitioner and as a member of the Mental Health Tribunal service and can provide independent advice on its use and the appeal processes.
