Dr Hammer completed his postgraduate psychiatric training at the prestigious Guy’s and St Thomas’ training programme scheme and has twenty years of working experience in psychiatry and neurology both in and outside the UK. He had training in Adult Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry, Liaison, Substance Misuse, Community Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.

He adopts a person-centred and holistic approach with values of respect ensuring the privacy and dignity of his patients. He works with patients, their carers and other professionals to deliver the best care for patients to enable them to achieve better quality of life using biological, psychological and social interventions in a bio-psycho-social model of care.

Dr Hammer holds an academic appointment as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). He has taught in modules organised by the postgraduate institute and in local academic programmes. He is an examiner in Brighton Sussex medical school.

Dr Hammer holds an appointment as the Royal College of Psychiatrists Deputy Regional Advisor, and also executive committee member, and Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Assessor.

Dr Hammer is an advisory panel member for section 12 and Approved Clinicians UK South.

Dr Hammer has special interest in adult and old age mood disorder, alcohol and drug addiction, anxiety disorder; perinatal psychiatry and psychosis, and learning disorders. He is also interested in suicide prevention, cognitive impairment and dementia management and research.

Dr Hammer has an active interest in research and provides teaching and training to medical and paramedical staff.

Dr Hammer provides direct clinical services, psychiatric evaluation and crisis intervention in emergencies successfully managing very complex and acutely unwell patients in the community

Dr Hammer holds a degree in neurology and neurophysiology

Dr Hammer was awarded “positive practice” for his contribution to Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2017 for his work.
