Dr Jenkins qualified in Medicine from Imperial College London in 1991 in addition to having graduated from University College London in 1990 in History of Medicine. He completed pre-registration medical posts at the Central Middlesex University Hospital, London and the Royal Hallamshire University Hospital, Sheffield.
Dr Jenkins commenced his psychiatric training in Manchester in 1992, and from 1993 he trained at Charing Cross Hospital, London, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1996. He then completed his specialist training in General Adult and Rehabilitation Psychiatry at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington from 1996 to 2000.
Dr Jenkins became an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in London in 2000, becoming Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University London in 2006. He has previously worked in Student Mental Health at King’s College London from 2000 to 2002 and Queen Mary University London from 2004 to 2016
From 2016, Dr Jenkins now works as a Consultant across a range of settings: at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, Student Mental Health at the University of East London (2003 to date) and for Occupational Health Works (2012 to date) for students and staff at London South Bank University, City University London, Canterbury University and Nottingham University.
Dr Jenkins takes a holistic approach to mental health. Treatment recommendations might include medication as well as individual, group or family psychological approaches. He believes that it is very important for the patient to be actively involved and agreeing to a suggested treatment plan.
